MESSAGE FROM BRIAN

Howell's hockey team isn't a team you root for, it's a team you slowly yet surely become a part of over time.

Howell Improves to 2-0 on the Season With a 12-1 Win Over Mon Don.

By: Rob Ferraioli, Mark Ferrante , staff writers

Game Summary
In a game where Howell completely dominated in all aspects, many players stepped up and contributed out of their roles. After early domination by the 1st and 2nd lines, coach Daley elected to giving the 3rd line of Bernhardt-Aienna-Yaegal, some rare ice time and the line responded. Bernhardt played a great game and scored his first varsity goal of the season, while Aienna and Yaegal both had good games and generated some chances. Back to the top 2 lines, Eddy Pyskaty played another great game, and looked unstoppable out there, while Mike Kochenash added a goal, and Mike Leiro had a big game scoring 3 goals.

On the back end, there wasn’t much work to be done defensively, as the Rebels maintained such high offensive pressure. Other than a few minor chances, it was a great game by the rebels defense, minus the one Mon Don goal, which came off of a broken play which left a Mon Don forward wide open in front of the net for an easy tap in past a sprawling Peras. Matt Morelli and Trevor Heuser both played strong games, with Morelli scoring his first two goals of the season, and playing great defense, and Heuser played well defensively, shutting down any of Mon Don’s rushes. Matt Kotch and Matt Schiek played well, and John Glover and Billy Montague got some playing time as well.

In net, there wasnt much work to be done, as the Mon Don offense could only muster 2 shots, Peras faced one shot, and let in one goal, in a period of action, and Bodeker made one save on a deflection, playing the entire second period.

Unsung hero - Matt Schiek.
Schiek wracked up a good amount of minutes and made his presences known by big hits, timely pinches and a few good shots to the net. If Howell can get Schiek going, as well as Morelli/Glover, look for the Rebels to jump into the top 25 of the NJ state rankings.

3 Stars of the Night

1) Eddie Pyskaty – Absolutely Dominated the ice, rarely lost the puck, and had what, 3 goals……. As we said last time, get used to seeing Eddie on here.
2) Mike Leiro – 3 Goals on the night, awesome wrist shot, look for him to have a big night against Jackson tomorrow!
3) Tie- Brandon Hodes/Matt Morelli – Hodes had a solid night, he picked up his first goal of the season, played well on the PK and back checked hard all game long. Matt Morelli picked up 2 goals and played awesome defense. Morelli is making a strong case to be the #1 defenseman for Howell.

Rebel Stars Leaderboard
1) Eddie Pyskaty – 4 Points
2) Mike Kochenash – 3 Points
3) Leiro – 2 Points

Whats next for Howell: The Rebels take on #26 ranked Jackson Memorial at Toms River on Wednesday December 8th, at 730. This game is huge for the Rebels, and is quite arguably their first big test of the year. There is a lot of bad blood in this game. In addition to being rival towns, Jackson’s head coach Peter Morris has been known for his hatred of Howell. Last year he told several people that Howell’s program is a joke, as is Brian Deakyne and the Howell Hockey Blog. Just a note, after he said that, Howell DEFEATED Jackson 3-1 in the Shore Conference Tournament last winter.

Will coach Morris eat his words again? Lets hope so.

Season Record - 2-0-0
Overall Record - 37-8-7

Next 3 games:
Jackson Memorial -- Wednesday. December 8th @ 730, in Toms River
Wall -- Tuesday, December 14th @ 700, in Wall

Fan Section: We had a great crowd numbers wise, but people, we need everyone to chant!!!!! We need to be loud!!! It doesn't work if the same 15 kids are the only ones chanting. We fully expect everyone to be out there tomorrow night, and need EVERYONE to chant.

Fan of the Game - Tom Dunwoody, gotta appreciate what Dunwoody brings to the table, even with nerve damage he still screams his heart out....Thank You Tom!

  7. Nicely written, Mark. Fanbase needs work, much better than last year, though. Keep up the chants!

As far as our games go, we play a lot of 'easier' teams in the beginning of the season, and we don't play too many difficult games until late January, I believe. As long as we keep confident and don't get cocky, we should see a very good season.

  10. Howell's first true test probably will be the Wall game, and the Mid South game shortly after.

Mid South tied CBA earlier this week and will be looking for revenge after states last year in arguably the most exciting game in Howell's history. Fans will need to be there.

Keep up the good work, boys

  17. howell hockey is over rated bunch of benders minus ed and buck mon don is shit lets get real they werent even gonna have a team this year lol

  18. Maybe, alot hinges on the development of the young d-corps. Trevor Hueser looks like a complete stud, as does Morelli/Kotch.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ignorant statement at 7:16. Although pyskaty and buckley are both top players in the shore leiro hueser and kochenash are right up there with them.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Kochenash is looking really good, very slick with the stick

    ReplyDelete
  21. yo Kochenash maddd nicee wit da stick. He pours sauce all over people

  22. kotch fucking blows watched him with his club team this year kid is to small and too weak to compete against the stronger teams in the SCT also you souly rely on eddy and buckly for scoring the rest of the offense isnt there and will get shut down against better teams they may look great vs mon don and toms river north but lets get real both teams suck looking at your schedule youll lose both games to mid south and after seeing mid north play rbc it wouldnt shock me if you split with them along with jackson as jackson has a much better goalie along with a couple jr players at their disposal other then that you really dont play anyone good you should be all the Freehold regional district teams unless you shit the bed and youll lose to toms river south because they returned all their key scorers and their goalie is pretty strong along with a solid blue line but the only reason people think your good is because you shit on shitty teams then play strong teams and compete for a period or so then let the game go to waste if you wanna play strong public school teams beat trs (toms river south) then go up in states and beat the teams like morristown beard randolph Montgomery morris knolls and brick memorial those are the teams to compete with if you cant you shouldnt even consider yourself a strong club cause the talent level in nj for hs hockey BLOWS because all the good kids play jr A and for the jr B kids they play hs because they either have a strong team or they just dont give a fuck. for the most part anyway if your an average hockey player lets say level A for club and your hs has hockey youll play varsity 2 or 3 line and the AA kids will play first line and youll win games but when you play the schools that have kids that play for real hockey teams youll get shit on which is exactly the case with you guys you have ed and buckley and kosh very strong club hockey players who will play D3 or D1 club depending how their grades are. everyone else that sticks out are average players because the talent level in the SC isnt their in terms of hockey its possibly the weakest you have mid south trs trn southern mid north howell manalpan freehold borough and township wall st rose jackson cba (who doesnt even play in the SCT) rbc sjv rbr are the schools that really stick out and even all of those schools would get shelled by the schools up north with the exception of cba rbc trs and maybe mid south

  29. Odds are...You go to CBA....Odds are...You are Kyle Turk...

Odds are...You would be the #3/#4 dman at Howell

    ReplyDelete
  30. Now, Now guys...Let tone it down a notch lol

    - Ferrante

    ReplyDelete
  31. odds are your right lol odds are you wouldnt get in to cba odds are your wrong considering i would have played varsity for cba my jr and senior year if i wasnt hurt which actually make to my knowledge at todays game but i really dont care im playing college baseball and your probably just a fucking pussy who thinks the world of howell hockey can you come to reality

    ReplyDelete
  32. LOL i dont even think Howell Hockey is that good, but its my school and I love going to the games... Ferrante + Rob F writes great articles for the team and we all love reding them.

Who do you want us to root for lmao

    ReplyDelete
  33. And Turk Lets face it, ur not going pro in anything, so i can just get a full ride for academics to college, i dont need baseball its a waste of 4 years

    ReplyDelete
  34. ferrante and brain do a wonderful job sorry i just hate a large portion of the students at that school because they think theyre so fucking good for whatever reason when in reality theyre average and im not saying that you cant root for them and not to celebrate the wins cause ill tell you for me anyway cba's team is not a typical cba team will be good not not as good as usual were very young and were gonna have to celly the wins now cause we wont get many in February

    ReplyDelete
  35. all i know is we got buckley! and eddie!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Whats the deal with all the kids choosing not to represent CBA? I dont know much about CBA but I heard a howell kid Billy D- something isint playing even though hes the best player or somethihng

    ReplyDelete
  37. i have never heard he was the best kid lol never ever and cause wwe play in the toughest conference in the gordon and delbartion is one of the best teams in the country so they win states just bout every year plus alott of kids are pussies and hate the coach cause hes a hard ass they just need to grow sacks when i played i actually liked him cause he pushed us plus the really good kids dont play hs like i said they play jrs or go to a prep school up north or to the us program i just found out tonight sophomore connor clifton will be heading to ann arbor next year to play for team usa

    ReplyDelete
  38. Growing up, I mainly watched private school hockey, I witnessed JvR/Kyle Palmieri/Delbarton kids take there first step on becoming NHL or AHL players. Now going from Private Powerhouses to a 3rd year public program, is a big difference.

Lemme tell you this though, some kids on Howell can play at a Gordon Confernce level, obviously Eddie and Buckley, but other kids can hold there own, I dont really want to mention names, but one sticks out in my mind... Freshman Trevor Hueser, he is an absoloute monster on defense, he eats ice time like no problem and has like 5 points alraedy. IMO- He would be on CBA/RBC varsity as a frosh, this kid impresses

But yeah, thats my two cents

  39. And for everyone, lets try to keep it PG13-rated and as least insulting on a personal level as possible.. Alot of parents read this, I love a great discussion but lets try not to use the F-bomb.

Also, if your posting something long, seperate it into paragraphs, Its easier to read

    ReplyDelete
  40. Whoever it is that started all this, if you don't like Howell or you have some personal anger toward us, why even bother wasting your time and responding? Makes you look like the dumb one here who has nothing better to do. This was something me and Mark wanted to do, which was simply a game recap and you come here blasting the team which was completely unrelated to the article. Get a life and actually learn to make sense when you start an argument that you have no place starting or even being involved in in the first place. Thanks.
    - Rob

  41. Kyle Turk, as one of the select few kids who like you at howell, with all due respect, and i mean with all due respect, don't you have anything better to do than to just trash on howell hockey?

    ReplyDelete
  42. i enjoy reading the blogs on hockey because it interests me and mark and brain are knowledgeable in hockey and before i even knew of cba i dreamed of playing hs hockey for howell then i went to cba and everything changed i love the job brain and mark do on here and i enjoy reading about the success that the team has what bothers me is the ignorant fans who think howell hockey is the greatest thing sinced sliced bread thats all
for the person who said im not going pro lmao thats for waking me up! i always knew id never go pro i just love to play and the fact i can go to a very good school and play is a life long dream and im living it idk why your pointing out an obvious fact that im not going pro lmao and
i respect the fans like mark and brain that actually know the game and i can actually hold a serious conversation with about hockey rob im sorry idk you so i cant really say the same
im not really trying to bash anyone except the people who dont know the game because they talk as if they do. its like a teacher who doesnt know the material theyre trying to teach its BS thats all

    ReplyDelete
  43. also i cant really comment on the trevor kid never saw him play what club team is he on

    ReplyDelete
  44. Trevor plays for Mercer Chiefs - Bantam - AAA

    ReplyDelete
  45. okay so he has talent idk what their record is cause thats key because theyve had really great teams and really really bad teams

    ReplyDelete
  46. The talent level at Mercer definatly varies, the last good Mercer kids I can remember is 93's with Billy Dovenero, Robby Darrar and Vin Russo.
